Institusjonelt fokus
Forskningsgruppen har et sterkt fokus på europeiske og EU-institusjoner og en stor interesse for spørsmål om institusjonell utforming, demokrati og ansvarlighet i styringssystemer, og hvordan de påvirker offentlige styringsprosesser samt institusjonell endring og kontinuitet. Forskningen fokuserer spesifikt på den endrende rollen til politiske representanter og ikke-valgte embedsholdere. Dette inkluderer forskning på strukturering og styring av politisk-administrative institusjoner, forholdet mellom politikk og administrasjon, og rollen til semi-offentlige organisasjoner som kontrakterte offentlige tjenester. Det intellektuelle grunnlaget for gruppen ligger i et mangfoldig felt av administrasjonsvitenskap, politisk teori, organisatorisk og institusjonell teori, internasjonale relasjoner og teorier om beslutningstaking og politikkutformingsprosessen.
Styring og politisk fokus
Forskningen fokuserer på styringssystemer, hvordan de er strukturert, hvordan de fungerer, og deres effekter. Styring forstås som å styre samfunnet gjennom interaktive og hierarkiske prosesser mot kollektivt forhandlede mål. Dette innebærer forskning på hvordan EU-institusjoner og politikk krysser medlemsstatene, inkludert det komplekse nettverket av flernivå-interaksjoner mellom kommuner, regioner, stater og det overnasjonale nivået. Dette inkluderer også forskning på hvordan EU styrer politikkområder som krysser nasjonale grenser, og hvordan EU opptrer som en internasjonal politisk aktør. Forskningsgruppen gjennomfører analyser på et bredt spekter av politikkområder, inkludert eksterne relasjoner, utviklingspolitikk, energipolitikk, forskning og høyere utdanning, helse, skattlegging, så vel som radikalisme og folkelig dissens.
