About the programme

Throughout the programme, you will gain international experience through field courses and exchange opportunities. In the final semester, you will have the chance to conduct fieldwork in collaboration with our partner universities in developing countries. This program is suitable for individuals who are passionate and interested in making a difference in the world.

What will you learn?

The three-year study programme aims to create an increased understanding of the conditions that lead to differences in social and economic development in various countries and regions. Its goal is to provide knowledge of global relations and development processes from an interdisciplinary perspective and social science point of view. This study programme provides you with a theoretical social scientific background and field experiences related to questions of development, international relations, development cooperation and change processes in a global context.

In the second year of study, you can choose from different studies as a minor. One offer is the minor "Sustainable Transformation", which is about explaining sustainability and how we can bring about sustainable development across different sectors in society.
More about minor options below "Course structure'.

Teaching methods

Teaching language: English.

Lectures, seminars, and group work are included in most of the courses in the study program. The programme also offers excursions, field visits, and dialogue meetings as part of the teaching in some parts of the program. The program addresses current issues and connects theory to current media coverage and ongoing debates. Guest lecturers from the public sector and humanitarian organisations connect the programme to practical fields.

At the beginning of the programme, there is a seminar on academic writing to help you get started with reading and writing academic texts.

Timetable

If you want an insight into what a week in the program looks like, you can check out the schedule for this year's students. Next year's schedule will be available closer to the summer.

Internship possibilities

The programme offers practical and international experience through field courses and individual fieldwork in countries where the study program has partner universities.

Learning environment

You will become part of a social and international student community and can engage in the program's own student organisation, Pangea, as well as active interest groups at UiA.

All students are connected to the student association Pangea. Student associations are organisations for one or more specific study programs, and bring together students within a field of study across different academic years. The student association organises both academic and social activities, and you can contribute by taking on positions of responsibility. You can also participate in a variety of other student activities regardless of your field of study.
