About the programme

Esports is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. More and more private businesses, governments, and the public sector, both nationally and internationally, see the opportunities to utilize the potential that lies in skills developed through esports. The bachelor's programme in academic esports will provide knowledge that makes you competitive in the future labour market!

What will you learn?

The bachelor’s programme introduces the world of academic esports and develop skills for a much broader field. This means that in addition to the activity of exercise, you learn about training,  recovery and performance.

You will also learn about the role of esports in society, technology related to esports, and how to use esports in education and in professional life.

The sixth semester is dedicated to writing a bachelor thesis. The students will then focus on one of the following four specialications in the field:

  • Esports athlete , coach or managing
  • The industry and eco-system related to esports
  • Technology and Innovation
  • Education and healthcare

Teaching methods

Language of instruction: English

The study program will primarily have lessons conducted at campus Grimstad, but each class will have one day at campus Kristiansand. Campus Kristiansand also offers facilities for physical training for students.

Each semester features a 10ECTS module where students can participate in creating their own plan based on the subjects for each semester. It can also be replaced by internships in agreement with the study program leader.

What can you do with your degree?

The bachelor's programme qualifies for jobs in various parts of the esports industry as an athlete and trainer, in management, administration and business development, technology and design, education and health and rehabilitation.

The knowledge and skills are transferable and can be used in other parts of working life as well, i.e., jobs in communication, marketing, sound and image, sales, programming, design and as operators of drones and other remote-controlled devices.

Further studies

The bachelor's program provides the opportunity to continue your studies at the master's level, both in Norway and abroad. Admission requirements for each master's program, in addition to your grades, determine what you can study further. Please note that admission requirements may change.

Can you pursue a master's degree at institutions other than UiA?

Yes, the program qualifies you for master's studies at other institutions as well. It is the admissions office at the institution offering the master's program that must assess whether you meet their admission criteria. Since admission requirements can change, the specific institution you wish to apply to must provide a specific response to this question.

Exchange opportunities

You can go on exchange during the 5th semester to the University of Jyväskylä in Finland and the University of Hawaii, Maui College in USA.

Admissions

Application period from 1 November to 1 December: 

  • International applicants from outside EU/EEA

Application period from 1 February to 1 March:

  • International applicants from EU/EEA
  • Applicants with a permanent or renewable residence permit in Norway who do not meet the Norwegian language requirement

  • Nordic citizens with a Nordic high school degree who meet the Norwegian language requirement
  • Residents in Norway with a renewable residence visa who meet the Norwegian language requirement
  • Residents in Norway with a high school degree from abroad who meet the Norwegian language requirement
  • International applicants from EU/EEA who meet the Norwegian language requirement

Entrance requirements are Higher Education Entrance Qualification for international applicants and certified language requirements in English.
