  Since 2002, over 100 “new” Dead Sea Scrolls fragments have appeared on the antiquities market. They are commonly described as “post-2002 Dead Sea Scrolls-like fragments”. In this article, we present a comprehensive dataset of these fragments, significantly expanding upon Eibert J. C. Tigchelaar’s landmark article “A Provisional List of Unprovenanced, Twenty-First Century, Dead Sea Scrolls-like Fragments” from 2017. Even though the fragments are now commonly believed to be modern forgeries, they continue to impact Dead Sea Scrolls research and market-leading Bible study applications like Accordance and Logos. Our open-access database provides a systematic, accessible, and comprehensive repository for the post-2002 fragments and associated data enabling researchers to streamline research efforts and foster collaboration.

  Since 2002, more than 100 “new” Dead Sea Scrolls fragments have surfaced on the antiquities market. They were launched with great stories and soon became big business. In this study, we analyze the market for post-2002 fragments. After a detailed chronological overview of the sales over the last 20 years, we discuss some of the most essential questions related to these sales: How did a market arise for Dead Sea Scrolls in the twenty-first century? What made some fragments especially attractive? How much money has been spent in total? Where did these new fragments come from? We argue that the post-2002 “saga” reads first and foremost as a story about Christian Dead Sea Scrolls.

  Oral, scripted and pictorial art has from its beginnings been focused on the lives of outstanding heroes and human beings: highborn men and women and their prowess, achievements, and errors of judgement and their consequences. Such life stories involve a reversal in the narrated events that provide an example to the listener, reader or spectator, enabling them to avoid repeating the protagonist s errors. By showing the effects of error and the reversals it produces, these narratives teach the audiences to change their ways and convert to a new kind of life. In its more general sense conversion simply means a passage of one state to another, usually centering on a turning point; it may be based on personal choice and conviction, or it may occur as the result of outside forces or events. The articles in this volume collectively demonstrate the ontological complexity of such change and the mimetic representation thereof; they represent different aspects of what the Editors term «the mimesis of change» in the real or fictional lives of characters, exploring how writers and artists deploy the device of peripety to depict personal, social, political, spiritual, artistic and intellectual changes. They also explore the many forms this mimesis of change can take: narratives in letters, tales and autobiographical accounts; images in the shape of poetic moments and paintings; dramatized representation in drama, theatre and spectacle. Finally, since the articles study the mimesis of such change, and not simply the change itself, reception becomes a central theme. It is the purpose of peripety to lead to recognition and change also on the part of the audience of readers and spectators, whether this change takes the shape of the shameful admittance of sin or the relief of a lucky escape

  In 1949, while the chill autumn breeze swept over Washington (DC), Athanasius Yeshue Samuel stood before the Library of Congress. In front of him, thousands of people had gathered to see him open the first exhibition of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Since their display at the Library of Congress, the scrolls have been featured in over 140 exhibitions across the globe. These exhibitions have been the subject of investigation in my doctoral dissertation, which I hope to submit in February next year. My investigation is based on books, documentaries, and articles written about the Dead Sea Scrolls in relation to the exhibitions. Because, regardless of location, the scrolls have caused excitement and intrigued people to come and see them. Many exhibitions have welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors and had budgets reaching millions of dollars.

  Since 2002, more than 75 new Dead Sea Scroll-fragments have surfaced on the antiquities market. These are commonly referred to as the post-2002 fragments. In recent years, researchers have become increasingly interested in provenance issues related to the these fragments. There is limited research investigating problematic provenances among the pre-2002 Dead Sea Scrolls. In this paper, I will investigate the case of xQJosh. The fragment of xQJosh was bought by the Schøyen Collection in 1998 and published in Discoveries in the Judean Desert and Gleanings from the Caves, neither of which advocates the fragment´s (lack of) provenance.

  The use of the Post-2002 Dead Sea Scrolls-like fragments for evangelistic purposes is an essential, but often neglected part of their story. Mainly on the basis of Stuart Hall’s social constructionist theory of representation, I will investigate how these fragments were utilized in exhibitions organized by Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Azusa Pacific University, Lanier Theological Library, and the Museum of the Bible.
