Areas of responsibility

Leona Chandra Kruse is interested in what it means to be human in the digital age.

Her research focuses on how people use information systems for work and leisure and in particular how the technologies should be designed to provide people with support, pleasure, and security. She examines legacy and emerging technologies, such as decision support systems, digital companions, non-fungible tokens, and immersive technologies, as well as innovative ways of appropriating these technologies, such as virtual wine tasting, hybrid experience, and digital offering design.

Her research has been recognized with several awards:

  • AIS Senior Scholar’s best Information Systems publication in 2018 (topic: IS for sustainability transformation)
  • Paper of the year 2018 award from the European Jounal of Information Systems (topic: IS for sustainability transformation)
  • Runner up of the 2022 best paper award from the Journal of Information Technology (topic: digitalization of multisensory activities)
  • SIGBIT 2023 best paper on Web3 and tokenization (topic: NFT and artistic creation)
  • Dissertation award from the University of Liechtenstein (topic: design knowledge from research)
  • Young economist participant at the the 7th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting on Economic Sciences

Her service to the community of Information Systems research includes the following:

  • Senior Editor for the European Journal of Information Systems (ABS 4, VHB A)
  • Executive member of the AIS Special Interest Group in Pragmatism
  • Doctoral Consortium Chair for DESRIST 2024
  • Program Chair for DESRIST 2021

Leona is the research lead for the Department of Information Systems. Check out IT IS AGDER, our research speaker series on established and emerging Information Systems topics.
