Organisation and history

Centre for e-health was established in 2010, initially under the name Centre for Ehealth and Care Technology. Since then, the centre has undergone several evaluations and organisational structural changes. See timeline below.

Timeline

2010

The Centre for Ehealth and Care Technology was established following the initiative of Rune Fensli, who served as the academic leader of the centre from 2010 to 2017.

 2011

The centre was designated as UiA's first flagship area and became an interdisciplinary collaboration project between the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business, the Faculty of Science and Technology, and the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences.

 2015

The centre underwent an evaluation, resulting in an extended status as a flagship area at UiA until 2018.

 2017

Professor Andreas Prinz from the Faculty of Science and Technology was appointed as the academic leader.

 2018

A joint professional council for research and innovation in e-health was established. The aim of the professional council, which is broadly composed, is to create a common meeting place to discuss current challenges and where various stakeholders can provide valuable advice to UiA and the Centre for e-health.

 2019

Centre for e-health was granted status as a prioritized research center, along with five other research environments at UiA. This status entailed funding of NOK 10 million over five years. The centre was also expanded to include the Faculty of Humanities and Education and the School of Business and Law.

 2020

Professor Margunn Aanestad from the Faculty of Social Sciences was appointed as the academic leader.

 2022

Professor Elin Thygesen from the Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences was appointed as the academic leader.

 2023

The prioritized research centres that were granted status in 2019 underwent an evaluation. The outcome resulted in commitments for continued funding until 2024 with a clear call to use the year to work on further strategy and explore alternative financing and organisational solutions.
