The course in musicological theory and method provides the students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles of musicological research as well as methodological approaches. It also looks at the fundamental issues of the philosophy of music and aesthetics. At the end of the course students should be able to raise relevant and innovative research questions and utilize scientific-theoretical argumentation on popular music as a phenomenon. In addition, the students will be provided with techniques of academic writing.

Undervisnings- og læringsformer
The course makes use of lectures, individual work, and group work.
Parts of the lessons are mandatory. These parts are communicated at the beginning of the semester through Canvas. The expected workload for students is 27 hours per credit.

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
