• Theories and models of QOL and HRQOL
• Methodological and ethical issues when planning the study/writing the study protocol
• Choice of instruments to measure QOL/HRQOL
• QOL/HRQOL research in a health promotion perspective
• QOL/HRQOL in children and adolescents
• QOL/HRQOL in a clinical perspective
• Use of QOL and self-reported outcomes in an individual setting
• User involvement in QOL research

Læringsutbytte

On successful completion of the course, the candidate:

Knowledge

• will have insight and understanding of theories and models of quality of life (QOL), health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and well-being, and can contribute to the international debate
• will have knowledge of QOL and HRQOL-research in general and in clinical populations
• will have in-depth knowledge about the best choice of QOL/HRQOL and patient reported outcome measures (PROM)

Skills

• can formulate relevant aim or hypothesis, plan and implement QOL/HRQOL research
• can design a study with QOL/HRQOL
• can integrate sustainability and user involvement in QOL/HRQOL research
• can critically evaluate, interpret, and disseminate QOL/HRQOL research

General competence

• can identify ethical issues or problems in QOL research and conduct QOL-research with integrity
• can disseminate QOL-research in well recognized national and international scientific channels
• can debate QOL research in international settings.

Eksamen

The final assignment is an individual written summary (3000 +/-10% words). The summary will focus on a self-chosen theme related to the course content. The written summary will be graded as pass or fail.
