The student must be a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Engineering and Science or at a similar institution
Innhold
The candidate is free to suggest a body of literature within a research topic of interest and relevant to the PhD-project.
Læringsutbytte
This course is designed to provide candidates with in-depth knowledge and understanding within a research topic in a field relevant to the candidates PhD-project.
After completing the course, the student is expected to:
have good knowledge about the state of the art within the selected topic
be able to discuss and argue using the concepts of the topic
understand the connection of the topic with related state-of-the-art topics
have in-depth understanding of applications related to this topic
apply the understanding of the topic to a research theme related to the students own specialization area
be able to collect more relevant information in the selected topic
Vilkår for å gå opp til eksamen
The content of the course must be approved by the PhD program committee for natural sciences (PECNAT) at the Department of Natural Sciences well in advance of the intended examination date.
Undervisnings- og læringsformer
Self-study. Workload per credit equals minimum 35 pages of scientific articles (excluding references), or minimum 50 pages of textbooks (excluding references), or minimum 27 hours of other relevant academic work (coding, modelling, lab work, etc.).
Studentevaluering
Emneansvarlig fastsetter i samråd med studenttillitsvalgt evalueringsform og om emnene skal ha midtveis- eller sluttevaluering i tråd med kvalitetssystemet kapittel 4.1. Informasjon om evalueringsform for emnet publiseres i Canvas.
Eksamen
The examination form will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Normally, the examination will consist of either a 45-minute oral presentation, an oral examination, or a written essay, exploring the course content in relation to the candidate's thesis topic. Graded passed / fail.
