Forkunnskapskrav

Students following the course must be admitted to the PING program at the Norwegian Research School in Innovation.

Innhold

The course takes as its starting point the innovation system approach that was developed in the beginning of the 1980s in the context of an OECD project on `Science, Technology and Competitiveness¿. The ambition was to develop a more dynamic perspective on innovation and learning in the promotion of economic growth with an active role of government. This view represented a non-price competitiveness national policy or a high-road strategy of innovation based competition, which was later also proposed by Porter and his cluster theory. This theme focuses on how firms interact with each other, with the knowledge infrastructure and the role of government in knowledge production and diffusion, and innovation activity. This theme will be presented through the course giving an overview of different forms of innovation systems (national, regional and sectoral), clusters as well as of different policy implications and typical policy instruments.
