Innhold
This course is organised to facilitate an understanding of the central concepts and practice of leadership and organisational management and to prepare students for the challenges managing evolving music industry firms and entrepreneurial ventures operating in global and local music markets imply.
The course focuses on Intellectual Property, including international conventions, copyrights, authors rights, performers rights, producers rights, trademarks, trade secrets, patents, and rights of privacy and publicity. The student is provided with an overview of company laws in the most relevant territories, standard industry contracts and contract law. The course also gives an overview of the different players, organizations and institutions, the foundations of the recorded music business, and of the various aspects of artist management.
Læringsutbytte
On successful completion of this course, the student should:

have an overview of relevant models of governance and leadership

have knowledge about the management of change and about how to cope with scalable businesses in an environment of transition

have knowledge about intellectual property rights, authors rights, patent law, contract law and company law

understand IP within an arts management/cultural industry context

understand the music industry origin, development and the connection between its different revenue streams
Vilkår for å gå opp til eksamen
The student will submit two written term papers with analysis of business cases throughout the course. The term papers must be passed before taking the exam. More information about compulsory exercises is given in Canvas by semester start. Compulsory attendance in the lectures.
Eksamen
One 5-hour individual written exam.
Assessed on the basis A-F (with A as the highest level and F as fail)
