• Principles of systematic reviews and systematic review tools

• Drafting a research question and outlining protocol and search strategy

• Advanced literature search and inclusion of studies with quality assessment

• Data extraction and synthesis (qualitative/quantitative/narrative)

Læringsutbytte

Upon completion of the course, the candidate

 

Knowledge

• will have insight and understanding of various kinds of review studies

• will have in-depth knowledge of the importance of outlining a clear research question and search strategy performing a systematic literature search

• will understand the importance and consequences of critically appraising studies appropriate for inclusion

 

Skills

• can formulate a relevant research question related to their own research topic

• can build a search strategy to systematically search relevant databases

• can choose relevant tools to critically appraise the included studies

• can develop a data extraction form and present a synthesis of findings

 

General competences

• can critically reflect on the basic principles of systematic reviews and its relevance to evidence-based health care

• can communicate and critically reflect on the risk of bias in studies and how to assess this

Vilkår for å gå opp til eksamen

Participation in compulsory lectures as stated in the course pamphlet.

Eksamen

Individual two-week home examination based on individual project work.

The examination will be assessed as pass or fail.
