Scientific collections
The Natural History Museum and Botanical Garden curates and develop scientific collections in botany, zoology, and geology. The collections consist of natural history objects such as pressed plants and dried macroalgae, taxidermied or preserved animals, as well as minerals and rocks. The living plants in the botanical garden are also part of the botanical collection.
Each object in the collection has documented information, including details about the place of origin and discovery date. This provides scientific value to the objects.
Most objects in the collections are from Norway, especially from Agder, which is our responsibility area. The collections are highly significant for the museum. The ollections are used in research, education, and outreach.
