Where is the playground?

The playground has been removed due to health and safety considerations.

the playground

This is what the playground looked like spring of 2024.

Where is the playground?

Several people miss the old playground, and are wondering where it has gone.

As the playground equipment  was in extremely poor condition, we had to remove it for safety reasons. NBH/UiA is responsible for health and safety in the botanical garden. We don't want any accidents - especially those that can be avoided!

Why don't we replace the playground equipment?

Kristiansand municipality owns the land where the playground was located, so the maintenance of the equipment is the municipality's responsibility. Unfortunately, the municipality does not want to invest more funds in maintaining the playground. Without funds, we cannot carry out the necessary maintenance work or install new equipment.

New playground?

There is currently a discussion about a possible new playground in another area of the botanical garden. This discussion involves several parties, including NBH/UiA, Kristiansand municipality, Statsbygg, and the Gimle Gård Foundation. With so many parties involved, it is a time-consuming process to come up with a good plan that everyone is happy with.

Consolation prize

As a consolation prize, we will set up a new outdoor exhibition in May 2024. It takes time to prepare the area - thank you for being patient and for keeping your distance while we work.

New exhibition

The exhibition is called "The Wild Relatives of Cultivated Plants" and focuses on how our food plants and useful crops cope with a changing climate. The exhibition will be on display until 2025. We hope the exhibition will be enjoyed by both children and adults!
