Have you seen the strange creation in Svarttjønn, Baneheia? It's a frog cage. The cage is put in place to protect the egg clusters of the protected common frog (Rana temporaria).

A pair of mallards are eating the egg clusters.

The frog cage is set up to ensure that more eggs hatch into tadpoles. The cage will be removed once the eggs have hatched.

Thank you for leaving the cage undisturbed.

The placement of the frog cage has been authorized by Kristiansand municipality. The frog cage has been set up through a collaboration between the Natural History Museum and Botanical Garden, UiA, and the Norwegian Zoological Society, Southern Division.
