Old garden plants have been systematically surveyed during the period 1999-2002. Traditions surrounding the plants have also been collected, and the plants are documented in the Agder Herbarium, the museum's scientific plant collection.
150 different perennials and shrubs are in place. The plants are part of our cultural heritage, and it is important to preserve these living cultural treasures.
In six beds, we show what was cultivated in Viking gardens (1), in medieval gardens (2), in Renaissance and Baroque gardens (3), in gardens associated with romantic landscape parks (4), Swiss-style house gardens - 19th century (5), and more modern 20th-century gardens (6).
