The historical rose garden illustrates how a rose garden might have appeared in front of the main building at Gimle Gård in the past.

Designed by Professor Magne Bruun from NMBU, the garden was completed in 1995. It does not aim to reconstruct the original garden but rather depicts a garden from the 1850s. Little is known about the original garden at Gimle Gård.

All roses and rose groups originating before 1867 are called historical roses. In the garden, you'll find a selection of historical roses, including the old rose groups Gallica, Damascene, Alba, Bourbon, Portland, Noisette, and Pimpernell.

The old-fashioned roses were frequently present in both commoners' and aristocrats' gardens and may have been part of Gimle Gård's original garden layout.
