A year in the garden

In the botanical garden, flowers bloom from early spring to late autumn. There is always something beautiful to see - even during winter!

Spring

Spring is a beautiful season in the botanical garden. Winter is behind us, and we eagerly await everything that will sprout and grow in the mild weather. Like in any other garden, the botanical garden needs to be prepared for the summer season. The garden needs to be weeded before the weeds take firm root. Trees and bushes must be pruned and thinned, cuttings taken, bulbs planted, and seeds must be sown in the greenhouses.

Conifers arboretum

The conifers arboretum is one of the most beautiful areas in the garden during spring. You may not have paid it much attention, but if you take a closer look, you will be surprised by its beauty.

The cacti house

In the cacti house, we have cacti and succulents. Late spring and early summer, you can experience them bloom. One of the most fun plants in here is perhaps Tillandsia ionantha, an air plant that changes color when it gets wet.

Summer

Summer is a busy time in the botanical garden. We hire many summer assistants during this season. Plants need watering, grass and hedges need trimming, flower beds require weeding, and lawns edges cut.

Autumn

Autumn is a different time in the botanical garden. Plants are preparing for a new season with cold and less light. Leaves fall, and fewer and fewer plants are in bloom. Nevertheless, there is much to do in the botanical garden during this season. We plant bulbs, collect seeds, harvest tubers, and move heat-loving plants indoors for winter. Leaves need to be raked, perennials and bushes pruned, seeds ordered and collected, and new plants sown in the greenhouses.

Winter

Most people visit the botanical garden during spring and summer, but we highly recommend taking a stroll in the garden during the winter season. The garden is especially beautiful when the sun makes the snow sparkle.

Winter is a quiet season in the botanical garden, but there is much to attend to indoors. Overwintering plants and tubers require attention, right temperature, humidity, and light conditions are crucial for survival.

Seeds are ordered from seed lists, signs are renewed and upgraded, and some plants are pruned for winter – even outdoors!
