John-Kåre Vederhus er utdannet som sykepleier ved Haraldsplass Sykepleierhøgskole 1981 - 84. Han har jobbet som sykepleier i kommunehelsetjenesten. Fra 1993 har han arbeidet innenfor rusfeltet. Han har diverse videreutdanninger som rusproblematikk, SEPREP (rus og psykiatri) og helseinformatikk. Han tok sin doktorgrad ved MedFak, UiO i 2012. Tema var helsetjenestens samarbeid med selvhjelpsgrupper i rusfeltet. Han jobber til daglig som forsker ved Avd. for rus- og avhengighetsbehandling, Sørlandet Sykehus og har en bistilling på UiA

Prosjekter

  • Pårørende til rusmiddelavhengige. Hvilken nytte har det for de pårørende å gå gjennom en psykoedukativ “familieuke” samtidig med at den som er rusmiddelavhengig er i behandling? Datainnsamling foregikk fra 2016 – 2018 på Avd. for rus- og avhengighetsbehandling, SSHF. Det er også foretatt en kvalitativ datainnsamling blant ungdommer som deltok i familieuka.
  • Nevrofeedback studien. Studien er en randomisert kontrollerte studie (RCT) som vil undersøke nytten av elektroencefalografisk (EEG) biofeedback, også kalt neurofeedback (NF). NF kan potensielt forhindre tilbakefall og drop-out av behandling gjennom sin beroligende effekt på sentralnervesystemet. Utfallsmål er fysisk helse, psykologisk symptombyrde, generelt velvære og livskvalitet, og dermed evnen til å forebygge tilbakefall. Doktorgradsstipendiat er Karin B. Gabrielsen.
  • En kvalitativ studie om Anonyme Narkomane - samarbeid med Magnhild Høie og Bente Birkeland, UiA
  • AgeSUD skal undersøke aldring og aldersrelaterte fenomener, som somatisk helse, blant personer med ruslidelse, med et hovedfokus på LAR-pasienter. Prosjektet er et samarbeid med Senter for rus- og avhengighetsforskning –SERAF, ved Universitetet i Oslo (UiO), som har samlet inn data i prosjektet. PhD-stillingen inngår i en forskningsgruppe med flere involverte forskere i dette samarbeidsprosjektet mellom SSHF og SERAF. Prosjektet benytter kvantitative metoder og registerkobling som hovedtilnærming. Prosjektet har sitt utspring i «NorCOMT» prosjektet ved SERAF, som har samlet inn en rekke kliniske data fra personer som søkte seg til/var i rusbehandling fra perioden; 2012-2016.
