Et ledelsesperspektiv på IT-utnyttelse/anvendelse

Hvordan brukes informasjonssystemer i organisasjoner, og hvordan blir bruken av IT styrt, er spørsmål som Tove Bøe har forsket på i avhandlingen hun forsvarer 10. oktober.

I avhandlingen har Tove Bøe utviklet en modell som integrerer to perspektiver (både bruker- og ledelsesperspektiv). Hun utvikler og får empirisk støtte for den teoretiske syntesen som forklarer utnyttelse og vedvarende bruk av informasjonssystemer i organisasjoner. 

Tove Bøe disputerer for ph.d-graden med avhandlingen “A Managerial Perspective on Continued Use of Information Technology: The Complementary Role of the Principal Agency Model” onsdag 10. oktober 2018.

Hun har fulgt doktorgradsprogrammet ved Fakultet for samfunnsvitenskap med spesialisering i informasjonssystemer.

A Managerial viewpoint

Understanding and predicting the use of new IT upon implementation is important for owners and managers as well as users in organizations.

While the acceptance and continued use of information technology has received considerable attention from IS researchers in the past, scarce attention has been given to how IT use has been managed.

This dissertation study how such usage models may include key management and governing issues, — that is, how managers in organizations may proactively influence and stimulate users’ attitudes and actions toward meeting the goals of their organizations.

A theoretical synthesis is developed

Taking as the point of departure the Information systems continuance model (ISCM), the motivation for the study is to contribute to this stream of literature by modelling and testing managerial-derived constructs through the lens of agency theory and the model of organizational trust.

Particularly, the dissertation addresses an explicit call for studies that include managerial work-centric concepts, complementary to the traditional user-centric concepts in the ISCM.

The findings

show that a model integrating ISCM and agency theory/trust is more powerful in explaining user continuance than ISCM in isolation and provides several contributions to the literature.

Particularly, the results show that the agency theory derived concepts of incentives, goal harmony and trust are valid constructs in the synthetic model.
