Structure

Within the specialisation in Engineering Sciences, there are five scientific fields: 

  • Civil and Structural Engineering
  • Materials
  • Mechatronics
  • Physics & Applied Mathematics
  • Renewable Energy

Coursework

The faculty offers the following PhD courses in Engineering Sciences:
Compulsory courses

The candidate must choose one the following courses according to which scientific field he or she is admitted to:

Elective courses

Several elective courses for each scientific field are available. Please find a list of relevant courses in the template for the project description or contact PhD administration.  

General requirements

15 ECTS are normally to be courses in science and technology.
20 ECTS are normally to be taken at UiA. 
Specialised PhD courses at other universities or university colleges may be included as electives in the coursework component. Relevant PhD courses may be found for example at Aalborg University, University of South-Eastern Norway or different data bases for PhD courses, like phdcourses.dk. 

Occupational profiles of graduates

The employment opportunities in Engineering Sciences are diverse. Examples of typical employers include:  Universities, research organizations and institutes, high technology companies including energy producers and distribution companies, power-intensive industry, consulting companies, offshore industry, transportation companies and the public sector.
