About the programme

The master’s degree programme in mathematics has two specializations: one in mathematics education and the other in pure mathematics.

Mathematics education covers issues related to the teaching of mathematics and prepares students to become mathematics teachers; pure mathematics delves deeper into advanced concepts and methods. Both specializations qualify students for lectureships after completing practical pedagogical education (PPU), as well as for PhD studies.

The University of Agder has a strong team of experts in mathematics and mathematics education, and in 2013 was awarded the status of National Centre of Excellence in Teaching Mathematics (MatRIC) from the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education, NOKUT.

What will you learn?

The specialization in Mathematics gives you a deep and advanced understanding of mathematical problems and methods. You learn to apply theoretical and practical knowledge in mathematics and gain in-depth knowledge in research on mathematics.
