Welcome as a new student

Congratulations to all new students at the bachelor's programme and the one-year programme in Global Development Studies at UiA. We look forward to meeting you at semester start on August 12, starting with a compulsory introductory meeting from 12:30 -13:30 in Room B3 001.

Join our orientation programme the week before semester start! The orientation programme is arranged by the International office for all international students at UiA.

Semester start 12 August (for all students)

Mandatory session

  • Time: 12:30-13:30 in Room B3 001
  • Location: Campus Kristiansand, room B3 001

This is where you will meet your fellow students and lecturer/ student adviser. There is no teaching on this day, but rather an introductory session where we get to know each other and learn what to expect for the semester ahead.

Attendance is mandatory.

Opening ceremony

Welcome to the formal opening of the academic year on the lawn at Campus Kristiansand, Monday 12 August!

UiA Buddy programme ("fadder")

UiA has a great buddy programme for new students! You will automatically become a member of a buddy group and will be contacted by a buddy already the weekend before semester start. This way, you know that someone will be there to greet you when you arrive at Campus Kristiansand on that day.

Tuesday 13 August

11.15 - 12.00: Introduction to digital tools, room B1 018 (non-compulsary)

Videos and practical instructions to digital tools at UiA are also available on this webpage.

12:30: Welcome event for all faculty students

All new students at the Faculty of Social Sciences are invited to Kristiansand Kino (Kristiansand cinema), where they will be greeted by faculty students and staff with the following programme:

  • Welcome speech by Dean Leif Skiftenes Flak
  • "Why does the world need Social Scientists?" 4 mini sessions by staff and former students. 
  • How to engage as a student - and why? Presentation of students' organisations. 
  • Coffee and cookies

10.30-10.45: Introduction of course staff, autumn semester 

10.45-11.15: Introduction to Development Studies

12.15-14.00: Intercultural communication (Chiara Astrid Gebbia, UiA)

14.15-15.30: Introduction of local student organisations (SAIH, Amnesty, Spire, SolUng)

15.30- 18.00: Introduction of the mentor programme and mentors (Margherita, Jack, Anna and Manuel)
