Semester fee and refund

Pay your semester fee as soon as possible and no later than 1 September for the autumn semester and 1 February for the spring semester.

When you pay your semester fee, you can download the app / obtain your semester card, your student ID card and receive your financial support from Lånekassa (only applicable for students with a permanent residence permit). You can find your invoice on Studentweb. If your invoice is missing, please contact UiA Help

Note that it can take a couple of days for your payment to be registered in our student system.

Semester fee

To pay your semester fee, please log on to Studentweb where you can find your invoice.

Each semester you are required to pay your semester fee to be registered as a student, to be able to attend exams, receive financial support from Lånekassa and receive your semester card. The semester card confirms that you are a student during the semester. You will need the semester card to use the services from SIA (The Student Association in Agder) and to get discounts, such as for travel.

Please pay your semester fee by the respective deadlines (1 February and 1 September), or you will no longer be considered a student and your registrations for classes will be deleted.

Returning students can find payment information and their invoice on the Studentweb in December/June. New students have to wait just before the semester starts.

If you do not have an online bank account, you can order a paper invoice on the Studentweb. The invoice is usually sent to your semester address, but during the summer and Christmas, it will be sent to your home address.

Please include the KID (Customer Identification Number) when making online banking payments. Do not use a manually printed invoice.

Banking details if you do not have a Norwegian bank account:

  • IBAN: NO5576940518748
  • SWIFT: DNBANOKK
  • Mark the payment with "Student number: xxxxxx"

For autumn 2024 and spring 2025 semesters, the semester fee and other fees amount to NOK 735, and includes:

  • Semester fee NOK 535 (to SiA)
  • Fee for copies (Kopinor) NOK 200

In addition an optional fee: SAIH NOK 50

If you wish to support SAIH (Norwegian Students' and Academics' International Assistance Fund) with NOK 50, the total semester fee will be NOK 785.

Please note that the giro in Studentweb is automatically NOK 785. If you want to pay NOK 735, you must manually adjust the amount when making the payment in your online bank.

The first time you pay your semester fee, you will get NOK 50 loaded onto your student card for print services. After this, you will need to top up your card yourself at the self-service screen at UiA Help on both campuses.

If you have already paid the semester fee to another university or college, the payment will not be automatically registered in UiA's student system. You'll have to show some kind of documentation that can prove that you have paid the semester fee elsewhere, so that UiA can register it manually in the system. To ensure it is properly recorded, please visit UiA Help at your campus or send a letter/email with a copy of the documentation proving payment. Please include your full name and student number.

Summer semester

Students who pay the semester fee during the summer semester (e.g. Summer School) will not need to pay again for the autumn semester.

Semester fee refund

You can get a semester fee refund if you:

  • withdraw from the exam
  • have made double payments
  • have overpaid
  • have paid at another place of study

The refund form can be found here (pdf).

If you are using a foreign bank, we also need your banking details (doc) and a colour copy of your passport.

The deadline for semester fee refund requests is 15 February for the spring semester and 1 October for the autumn semester.

PhD candidates

"PhD candidates receiving support from the State Educational Loan Fund pursuant to the rules in Part Six of the provisions of the Educational Support Act, through the NUFU-programme or other programmes financed by NORAD, may choose to pay the semester fee. In cases where there is doubt whether a person should be classified as a student, the institution will, after consulting with the Student Association, decide the matter pursuant to the first subsection”. See also Student Association provisions, section 17.

This indicates that only PhD students enrolled in the programmes mentioned above, or those getting support from the State Educational Loan Fund according to current regulations, may choose to pay the semester fee. For all other PhD students, paying the semester fee is not an option.

Semester fee at another Norwegian institution

If you are a student at multiple educational institutions in Norway, you only need to pay the semester fee at one of them. As a general rule, you should pay the semester fee to the place of study where you are residing during the semester, or where you are taking the majority of your credits. However, if you are on exchange abroad and are a degree student at UiA, you must still pay the semester fee to UiA.

In order to be exempt from paying the semester fee at UiA, we need documentation of your payment made to another Norwegian place of study. Log in to your Studentweb account at the institution in question, then navigate to More > Payments. You will be able to download a PDF invoice of your payment, which should be forwarded to hjelp@uia.no for verification.
