I withdrew before the exam took place

This does not count as an attempt, but you must wait to take the exam until the next time the course is taught.

I didn't show up to the exam

This counts as an attempt, and you must wait to take the exam until the next time the course is taught.

I was withdrawn from the exam due to non-approval of exam requirements

You cannot take the exam until the next time this course is taught, and you get your work requirements approved.

I was sick on the day of the exam

You can register for the postponed exam when you see under your results in Studentweb that the medical certificate has been registered.

I showed up to the exam, but withdrew during the exam

This is considered failing the exam. You will be able to register for the postponed exam.

I completed the exam, but did not pass

You will be able to register for a postponed exam. 

I got a bad grade on the exam

You can register for a postponed exam. But the exam will only be scheduled if at least one other student failed, was ill or withdrew during the exam. If this doesn't happen, you will receive an email the day after the registration deadline.

I have appealed my result, but the assessment is delayed

It is recommended to sign up for a postponed exam regardless. If you are satisfied with the outcome of the appeal, you can then withdraw your registration.

I have used three exam attempts

A candidate cannot sit for an exam in the same course more than three times (courses with equivalent academic content are considered the same course). This applies even if you have been newly admitted to the program.

In special cases, UiA may grant dispensation for a fourth exam attempt upon application. The application must include a justification and any available documentation:

Exception: The number of attempts for practice is limited. It is only possible to complete each practical period twice. Withdrawal during practice will count as one of the two attempts..

Exceptions for postponed / new exams:

• Courses that are offered every semester, such as ex.phil, do not have postponed exams.
• Portfolio exams that are not completed must, as a general rule, be retaken the next time the course is taught.
• If you have been on exchange, but have previously fulfilled the exam requirement in the course, you can gain access to a postponed exam if it is scheduled. Application should be made to eksamen@uia.no by 1 February.
