Recommended prerequisites

A minimum of 60 credits within the subject area of ​​the program, as well as social science method, for example ME-100.

Course contents

The course is consisting of two parts, and begins with a seminar serie followed by a practical exercise in political science analysis. The seminar series will focus on developing a critical relationship towards scientific theory positions, social science methods, research traditions and models.

The main part of the course will be in a practical exercise in political science analysis as the bachelor's thesis. The student shall approach the theoretical, analytical and methodological knowledge that has been acquired through the program to delimit the topic, formulate the problem, carry out an analysis, and report this in a written bachelor thesis.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student should:

• Be able to formulate a problem

• Be able to carry out a professional analysis of the problem

• Be able to report work and results in a larger written work

• Critically evaluate current sources and refer their sources with accuracy

• Have a conscious relationship with ethical issues related to their work

Examination requirements

Submission of project and participation in compulsory supervision. Further information is given in Canvas at the start of the semester.

Teaching methods

The teaching will consist of lectures, group seminars and supervision. The course is based mainly on the student's own efforts and independent work with the Thesis.

Information exchange between teacher (s), students and administration will take place through our own virtual classroom in Canvas. Material distributed on Canvas is intended as a supplement, not a replacement, for participation in lectures, seminars and in supervision. Some compulsory attendance and participation should be calculated.

Total work load is 540 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
