Prerequisites

Students must have passed all their examinations in the study programme¿s first two years in order to be allowed to continue on to PED 320 Bachelor¿s Thesis in Special Education.

Course contents

The thesis is to be related to both practical and theoretical problems within one or more study program courses. Through completing this work, the student will display special education knowledge and theoretical insight. The thesis may be an empirical work, a study of literature or a developmental work. If the student chooses to complete an empirical work, the thesis must still have a theoretical foundation. Students are to choose topics and work out a project description that is to be approved by their advisor. The bachelor¿s thesis has its starting point in the student¿s own topic proposal, but may also be completed in cooperation with an ongoing research or development project at UiA. Requirements for thesis writing will be presented in more detail at the start of the semester.

 

 

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, students should
- formulate a relevant problem within special education

- plan, complete and document an independent academic work

- apply a scientific mode of thinking and relevant theories in relation to a problem

- demonstrate in-depth knowledge of a special education topic through disseminating existing knowledge in the field

- display knowledge of methods and the structural aspects of completing an empirical or theoretical assignment

- present and discuss theories and findings in a professionally adequate manner
- reflect upon research dilemmas with regard to ethics

 

 

Examination requirements

Requirements for being allowed to sit the examination are attendance at compulsory group tutorials and individual supervision. Topics and problems must be approved by the course instructor/advisor.

 

Teaching methods

Seminars, advisement and independent work. Three individual advisement sessions are provided. Advisement is compulsory.

 

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Bachelor¿s thesis - one individual work on a chosen topic. The thesis comprises approximately 30-40 pages (excluding attachments). Graded assessment.
