Prerequisites

NO-133 Norwegian for International Students or the equivalent (upon application).

Course contents

This course is for exchange students and other international students on level A1-A2 according to The Common European Framework for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (2011). The students will further develop their basic grammatical knowledge and skills. Some central topics are verb tenses, the use of adjectives and noun, preposistions, subordinate clauses. The course offers practicing language variation and some abstract vocabulary.

There will be an emphasis on oral and written activities, in terms of both understanding and expressing oneself. The students will also begin to read authentic texts with an approximately normal degree of difficulty.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course the students shall have the ability to understand oral and written presentations of the topics that have been discussed during the course. This includes being able to:

  • talk about personal background, experiences and plans for the future;

  • speak about leisure activities, personal work experience and education;

  • compare different cultures and share intercultural experiences;

  • express positive and negative feelings, uncertainty, wishes, conditions;

  • express, explain and give reasons for personal opinions.

The students shall also:

  • be able to write short coherent texts about the topics discussed during the course;

  • have a relatively good grip on Norwegian spelling and on basic Norwegian grammar;

  • have a relatively extensive vocabulary;

  • express themselves in a simple, understandable and reasonably idiomatic way.

Examination requirements

Compulsory attendance requirement (80%) and 10 short digital tests (quizzes) must be approved.

Teaching methods

Lectures and exercises. The expected workload is estimated to about 270 hours.

Assessment methods and criteria

3-hour witten examination under surveillance. Graded assessment.
