Course contents

The course emphasizes the main instrument, interpretation and co-writing collaboration. Emphasis focus on further developing creative and technical skills and a personal artistic expression on the student's main instrument.

 

In ensemble the focus is on co-writing songs with other students. You will learn to write music on commission and work closely with other students in the writing process, recording and completion. The student learns about copyrights, both as a practitioner and author.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student should:

  • be able to work independently and creatively within their main area

  • be able to make and perform artistic choices and assessments

  • have knowledge of song text writing work and different forms of music

  • have knowledge of the main stakeholders in the music industry related to music publishing

  • be able to apply main instrument-related music technology

  • have knowledge of methods for co-writing and producing their own music

Examination requirements

  • Approved attendance in compulsory classes

  • Approved submission of 3 co-writing assignments in ensemble

  • Approved participation in 1 interpretation

  • Approved participation in 1-3 projects and / or seminars

Teaching methods

Each student is given individual instruction on their main instrument. During the course, the student participates in interpretation, (LIVE: performance with self- and peer assessment, as well as feedback from lectures), as well as various compulsory projects and/or seminars.

 

A performance project towards a given target group is part of the course, and seminars are provided. In this project the students collaborate across the bachelor's program in electronic music and the two specializations in popular music performance. The project's scope, target group and process are presented at the start of the semester.

 

Parts of the teaching are compulsory. These parts are presented in Canvas at the beginning of the semester.

 

Expected work scope is 27 hours per credits.

 

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Individual portfolio submission consisting of two parts:

  • Part 1: 15 minutes of recorded music

  • Part 2: A written reflection paper of approx. 500 words

Grade: Pass/Fail.
