Course contents

The course contains main instrument teaching and ensemble. In the subject, emphasis is placed on further developing creative and technical skills, as well as further development of a personal expression within one's main area.

  • be able to apply various methods for efficient and targeted rehearsal or production of music

  • have a broad and reflective basis for recognizing and understanding different forms of musical work in relation to their main area

Examination requirements

  • Approved attendance in compulsory classes

  • Approved submission of 3 co-writing assignments in ensemble

  • Approved participation in 1 interpretation

  • Approved participation in 1–3 projects and / or seminars

Teaching methods

Each student is given individual instruction on their main instrument. During the academic year, the student participates in interpretation, as well as various compulsory projects and/or seminars. Students specializing in popular music performance music are especially challenged this semester to work with the recording of musical material and to know the various processes involved.

 

For the students on the performing popular music programme, the ensemble teaching takes place in permanent ensembles and in various projects. At the end of the semester, the ensemble has a studio session where you record some of the material you have worked on this semester

 

For the students on the program in electronic music, the ensemble is organized so that the student can choose different areas in which they want to work. DJ, Live-Lab, co-writing, studio band, ensemble or sampling and live remix are examples of options. Eligibility may vary based on student numbers

 

Parts of teaching are compulsory. These parts are presented in Canvas at the start of the semester. Expected work scope is 27 hours per credits.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

Performing Music – Popular Music:

An individual portfolio submission consisting of:

  • 15 minutes of recorded music. The recorded music can consist of several productions. Repertoire is decided in consultation with the main instrument teacher.

  • A written reflection paper of approx. 500 words.

 

Electronic Music:

An individual portfolio submission of 15-20 minutes of recorded music. The recorded music can consist of several productions. Repertoire is decided in consultation with the main instrument teacher.

Grade: Pass / Fail
