Course contents

This course emphasizes different ways of composing and producing music for film and television. The course provides an introduction to both the technological and the musical compositions in the field, as well as a practical, technological and music theoretical introduction to film music.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student should:

  • have basic knowledge in film post-production

  • have knowledge of midi and audio in connection with various film formats

  • have knowledge of the functions of music and sound in film

  • be able to apply their knowledge when composition and editing of film music

  • be able to analyze film focusing on music and soundscapes

  • be able to communicate academic challenges and discourses related to film music

Approved attendance in compulsory classes.

Teaching methods

The teaching is conducted in groups, seminars and supervision in connection with individual project assignments.

Expected scope of work is 27 hours per. credits.

Evaluation

The study program manager determines-in consultation with the student representative-selected evaluation form and whether the courses should have mid- or final evaluation in line with the quality system chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

An individual portfolio exam with recordings of minimum 6 minutes in total. The recording may consist of 1-3 productions. Assignments are presented at the start of the semester in Canvas. An overall grade is given for the portfolio.

 

Grade expression: Pass / Fail.
