Course contents
In the course, emphasis is placed on the student working on designing physical and virtual instruments to generate and process sound. The course emphasizes expanding the student's ability to generate planned and unanticipated audible events. The course places particular emphasis on how these opportunities can be used in the student's artistic work.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student should:

know different creative strategies for designing and adapting the design of your own instrument in relation to your own artistic work.

be able to create and apply different forms of signal processing.

know basic algorithms, software and analogue devices for processing and creating sound.

know ways of designing instruments which introduce contingencies.

Teaching methods
The teaching consists of lectures and group supervision.
Parts of the teaching are compulsory. These parts are presented in Canvas at the beginning of the semester.
Expected work scope is 27 hours per credits.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria
The exam consists of two parts:

Part 1: Individual demonstration in the form of video or images demonstrating the technical setup of the self-made instrument design with explanatory text or speech (video).

Part 2: A sound product of 5-10 minutes from the student's own artistic work where the instrument design is used.
Both parts must be passed to pass the exam.

Grade: Pass/Fail.
