Course contents

The students will learn how to work with a state of the art game engine. During the course they will as a result produce an interactive visualization project or a computer game. The course will also cover visualization principles, camera matching, lighting, texturing, rendering and post-Production.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the students should be able to:

  • produce an interactive visualization of a product in a game engine or develop a game in a game engine.

  • define and modify models, materials, interaction, object control, lighting and light maps in the chosen game engine.

  • use a visualization program to create visualizations of different realism levels.

  • create interactive visualizations by importing models, and develop scripts, in a game engine.

  • evaluate suitable levels of realism and choice of media in a visualization project.

Examination requirements

Compulsory assignments. Information about compulsory assignments will be given in Canvas at the start of the semester.

Teaching methods

Lectures, workshops, exercises, and instruction videos. Expected student workload is approximately 200 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Admission Requirement if given as Single Standing Module

The admission requirements for this course are the same as for the master’s programme in Multimedia and Educational Technology.

Assessment methods and criteria

Project work done individually or in groups counts 70 % of the final grade. The oral presentation counts 30 % of the final grade. Graded assessment. Information about the requirements of the project report will be given in Canvas at the start of the semester. It is not allowed to deliver improved versions of the project in connection with new or postponed examinations.
