Course contents

  • Design criterion and load analysis

  • Dimensioning against static loads and fatigue

  • Preloaded bolt connections, shafts and shaft-hub-connections, bearings (sliding and rolling element), gear wheels

  • Welded joints

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student should:

  • have knowledge about the design of the most important mechanical systems applied in mechatronic systems

  • understand the function of mechanical systems

  • be able to design and dimension simple mechanical systems

  • be able to dimension different methods of joining components

Examination requirements

Compulsory assignments. Information will be given in Canvas at the start of the course.

Teaching methods

Lectures, exercises laboratory work and project work.

Estimated workload for the average student is 27 hours per credit.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Same as for the master's programme in mechatronics.

Assessment methods and criteria

5-hours individual written examination with PC as tool (60 % contribution to the final assessment). Portfolio with project work (40 % contribution to the final assessment). The project work is to be presented orally. Graded assessment.
