The course is connected to the following study programs

  • Mechatronics, Bachelor's Programme

Teaching language

Norwegian or English

Prerequisites

Students must have passed at least 130 ECTS at the start of 6th semester in order to carry out the final research project. This is valid for students who carry out their bachelor project from spring term 2014.

Course contents

Thematic areas and problems will be chosen by the students under supervision. The project will be selected preferably within the program's main specialization areas. To which extent the projects may include other areas depends on the supervision capacity. Projects are given from the regional business sector as well as from the UiA. This way it will be possible to gain experience with the practical application of the theoretical knowledge and gain an insight into the business sector's needs in this area.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student should be able to

  • have experience in the implementation of a major engineering project in the field of mechatronics where the focus is put on the interaction between machine, computer and electronics

  • compare and examine different solutions to mechatronic problems

  • plan and carry out experimental work to the extent that necessary for the project

  • to communicate the technical results of the project in both written and oral form

Examination requirements

Approved participation in compulsory guidance meetings.

Teaching methods

Independent work in groups of 2-4 students funder supervision. The project may, under special circumstances, and by arrangement with the programme coordinator, be carried out individually. For every group there will be 5 meetings of compulsory guidance. There is a mutual responsibility for the students and the supervisor to follow this up.

Estimated work load for the average student is 27 hours per credit.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Project work carried out in group, with oral presentation and defence of the project. Graded assessment for the joint work. Presentation and defence of the project may give basis for individual assessment. For the matter of new or postponed examiation, both project work and oral presentation have to be carried out again. It is not allowed to submit an improved version of a previous exam.

Reduction of Credits

This course’s contents overlap with the following courses. A reduction of credits will occur if one of these courses is taken in addition:
