Banach space, Hölder’s inequality, Minkowski’s inequality, Classical Banach spaces, Operators on Banach spaces, Quotient spaces, Hahn-Banach theorems, Dual Banach spaces, The Open Mapping Theorem, The Closed Graph Theorem, The Banach-Steinhaus Theorem, The bidual of a Banach space, reflexive Banach spaces

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course the student is able to

  • explain and apply key concepts from Banach space theory.

  • give an account of important results and connections between concepts in this theory.

  • apply the most common methods in Banach space theory and justify why these methods work.

  • deduce and justify results in Banach space theory.

Lectures, group work, and compulsory hand-ins. Estimated workload of the course is 267 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.
