KF-408 Interdisciplinary Artistic Work (10 credits)
Course contents
The course gives interdisciplinary insight into various forms or artistic research and focuses on research, reflection and knowledge outcome producing processes in creative artistic work. The course conveys knowledge about the origin of the term «artistic development», its relationship to the term «artistic research» and similar terms in other languages, as well as its specific relation to the term «research» and the discussion of this relation in Norwegian academic context.
Learning outcomes
After course completion the student must have:

knowledge of various types of artistic research and insight into different relationships between artistic intent, process and outcome

have in-depth knowledge of processes of research, reflection and arts creation in creative arts, and of the differences and similarities between such processes in different arts practices

be able to plan and complete their own artistic research projects and relate these to contemporary art, current discourse and the relationship between art, research and social conditions

be able to reflect on and account for the research, reflective and knowledge outcome of own their own artistic research in relation to relevant theories

Teaching methods
The teaching is in the form of workshops with various artists, where emphasis is placed on processes of exploration, reflection and cognition. The student will develop an artistic project where they can immerse themselves in their own field or work interdisciplinary. The artistic project involves documentation and preparation of a reflection on the work's knowledge-producing aspects, which must appear in the project description and the oral examination.
The course includes compulsory attendance. Details thereof will be available on Canvas at the start of the semester.
Expected workload is 27 hours per credits.
Evaluation
The study programme manager decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

Part 1: Preparation of project description of approx. five pages

Part 2: Presentation of the result of the artistic development work.

Part 3: Individual oral debriefing will follow the presentation based on the project description and presented work.
All parts must be assessed to be passed to pass the course examination as a whole.
