Course contents

The course introduces students to various perspectives within contemporary art, and contemporary art will be viewed in the light of increasing globalization that has taken place in recent decades. To gain a greater understanding of how we interpret and understand visual expressions, students will also receive a basic introduction to visual culture.

Teaching methods

Teaching will take place both in groups and as individual guidance. Learning forms such as lectures, seminars, and academic discussions will be used. The course includes a writing workshop with text production, and students will receive guidance in this. Different written text genres, such as catalog texts, curator texts, art criticism, and exhibition texts, will be part of the written work. Students are expected to actively participate in excursions and in teaching, including giving feedback on tasks to others in the group.

 

Excursions and voluntary study trips are planned, where students are expected to actively participate both before and after institutional visits.

 

Attendance is mandatory in teaching and guidance. More information will be provided in Canvas at the start of the semester.

 

The expected workload is 27 hours per study credit.

Evaluation

The program director, in consultation with the student representative, will determine the form of evaluation and whether the subjects should have a mid-term or final evaluation in accordance with the quality system chapter 4.1.
