Course contents

The course centers around organizational cybersecurity strategies and governance. During the course, students get familiar with different types of strategies and different strategy processes. In addition, students become familiar with the role of governance in organizations and introduced to strategic frameworks and their implications for cybersecurity. The course will include case studies and assignments to analyze and craft strategies for cybersecurity and to design governance structures in organizations.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, the students will:

  • understand the difference on organizational tactical/operational versus strategical perspectives.

  • have thorough knowledge of the role of strategies and governance in cybersecurity.

  • be able to analyze cybersecurity implications of organizational strategies.

  • be able to analyze organizational governance processes.

  • be able to evaluate strategic alignment of cybersecurity with organizational strategies.

  • be able to create organizational cybersecurity strategies and governance structures.

Approved mandatory presentation and assignments. More detailed information will be provided in Canvas at the start of the semester.

Teaching methods

Lectures and seminar discussions with practical case assignments and group tasks. The estimated workload is 270 hours.

Assessment methods and criteria

Portfolio assessment, counting for 100% of the grade. The portfolio includes both written assignment with individual grade and group work with common grade. Individual grades, A-F. More information on the portfolio will be given at the start of the semester in Canvas. There is no postponed examination in this course.
