The course is connected to the following study programs

Teaching language

Norwegian

Recommended prerequisites

Students must have passed 30 ECTS of the master's program. The student competence is also assessed based on the needs of the host organization and specific competence requirements, to be able to solve specific tasks and in accordance with an agreement between the organization and the Department of Information Systems.

Course contents

Through an internship you will have the opportunity to participate in an organization's daily work, and thus gain experience with relevant work assignments. You will have the opportunity to try out theories in practice and learn how to reflect through relevant work assignments. The Internship gives you the opportunity to expand your professional network. Internship is not paid, as students gain 10 credits by taking the course.

The purpose is to give students insight into and understanding of a specific organization's work related to digital transformation, focusing on, among other things: innovative application of information systems (IS), streamlining and optimization of business processes through digitalization, and strategic utilization of IS. Current practices are mainly related to practical challenges related to digitization of public, private or voluntary organizations, but may also be projects related to the department's research efforts in digital transformation, integrated crisis management and e-health.

  •  The content of the course is determined by the needs of the organization or research project, and according to an agreement between the organization and the Department of Information Systems.

  • By working with a specific assignment in an organization or research project, the student should gain insight into practical problem solving in a job situation.

  • The practice can be useful for highlighting one's own competence, establishing networks and important contacts with clients in your field of study for future careers.

Learning outcomes

The student should demonstrate the ability to apply theoretical knowledge gained earlier in the study through continuous self-evaluation and reflection based on the experience from the practical assignments. The subject is first and foremost an opportunity for "learning by doing". The student should reflect on theory and methods described in the discipline of information systems, and assess the relevance of theoretical knowledge in relation to the practical tasks that have been completed.

After completing the course, the student should:

  • be able to apply relevant theoretical knowledge about a specific topic within information systems with relevance to practice or research

  • be able to solve a challenging problem for a given organization, or a research-oriented assignment within the specific subject area

  • convey the specific subject area in focus and master the terms of the subject area

Teaching methods

It is planned that the student is placed in a company or organization corresponding to one and a half days a week throughout the semester. The projects are individual. In special cases, if the project allows it, two students can work together. This must be clarified with the course coordinator in advance, and will require a larger scope of the project.

The Department of Information Systems collaborates with a number of companies and organizations and the semester before completion will facilitate that students can apply for available internships, but can not guarantee internships for everyone who applies.

Compulsory gatherings are arranged with the main emphasis on exchanging experiences between the students, and individual guidance will be offered. A project and communication plan, as well as guidelines for report writing are determined by the supervisor in collaboration with the student.

Normal workload is 270 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.

Assessment methods and criteria

Evaluation is based on final project report. The final report is graded pass/fail.
