Recommended prerequisites

Students should have a basic understanding of ICT and how ICT can be used in management of both private and public businesses.

Course contents

Students will read the theory from the IS-305 and work on the project in IS-304. As far as possible, the report should focus on the following topics:

  • Collaboration between IT/IS managers and managers of other business units in order to deploy Information Technology to achieve business goals.

  • Introduction to different types of enterprise systems.

  • Shaping and managing the IT functions in the enterprise.

  • Relations between business strategies and IT/IS challenges.

  • Management of procurement, implementation and operations of Information Systems.

  • Ethical and legal problems related to the IT/IS manager role.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the role of the IT unit as a service unit in an enterprise, and how the IT-unit can manage the system developed in IS-304.

  • Know the tasks of an IT unit

  • Understand challenges for successful implementation and utilization of Information Systems (IS)

  • Solve challenges related to the organizing of IT/IS projects and IT units

  • Understand the role of IS as a tool for process improvement.

Examination requirements

Students must take IS-304 and follow the teaching of IS-305 simultaneously with IS-306.
The report have to be approved. Reports that have been passed in previous implementations of the subject are not automatically approved for subsequent completions.

Teaching methods

Students must participate in IS-304 and follow the teaching of IS-305. In IS-306 a report is prepared. Lecture 2-4 hours per week, group assignments with cases and examples.

Tuition will be in English if there are English speaking students.

Evaluation

The course evaluation is completed as a midterm evaluation in accordance with the provisions listed in the Quality Assurance System Chapter 2.1.1. A final evaluation may be completed as required.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral exam based on the report. Graded marks.

Students must participate in IS-304 and follow the teaching of IS-305.
