Course contents

The course provides insights and perspectives on the operational, business, ethical, regulatory and social considerations around AI so that students get equipped to critically appraise AI technologies and their use. On completion, students will have developed an informed opinion about the possibilities of AI technologies being able to reflect on their implications and potential applications.

 

This course is relevant to students who are interested in learning about the role of AI for society, organisations and individuals and to develop an initial understanding of human-centered AI design.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students should:

  • have knowledge of the evolution of AI technologies and their use for automation and augmentation

  • understand the potential benefits, risks and limitations of AI

  • understand the significance and interdisciplinary nature of human-centered AI

  • be familiar with responsible AI principles and the current wave of regulation and ethical guidelines

  • be able to identify different stakeholders involved in AI systems and the impact of human decisions in AI workflows

Teaching methods

Fully online teaching with a combination of lectures, group work and course assignments. Expected workload is 67,5 hours.

Evaluation

A digital evaluation will be organised in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

Written examination, 45 minutes. Graded pass/fail.

Open to all students studying a programme at UiA. Should there be competition for admission, the following ranking order applies:

1. Students in the 3rd and 4th semester of a master's programme

2. Students in the 5th and 6th semester of a bachelor's programme

3. Students in the 1st and 2nd semester of a master's programme

4. Students in the 3rd and 4th semester of a bachelor's programme

5. Other students
