Course contents

In this course, students will work with the planning and implementation of training and activity from a coaching/management perspective. Furthermore, students will acquire basic skills in selected team and individual sports. Winter activities such as skiing, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing/snowboarding and winter outdoor activities are also emphasised in this course.

Individual sports

  • Swimming

  • Dance

  • Cross country and ski activities

  • Alpine/snowboard

  • Winter outdoor activities (winter trips with overnight stays in snow caves/edge pits/tents)

  • Basic ice skating training

The practical activities will serve both as a starting point and as a concrete arena for the more theoretical courses in the programme.

We reserve the right to make changes to the range of activities on offer, but instruction in winter activities must always be provided.

The following mandatory courses outside campus are included:

  • courses in cross-country skiing and ski activities

  • courses in alpine skiing and snowboard

  • course in winter outdoor life

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student will

  • have basic knowledge of the characteristics of different individual and team sports

  • have insight into basic training planning and be able to plan, implement and evaluate training in a selected sport

  • have insight into basic training theory and be able to relate this to the sports in the course

  • have basic skills in selected sports

  • have basic skills and knowledge related to learning methodology in selected sports/activities

  • have basic knowledge of and experience with managing training groups

Examination requirements

  • Approved attendance in practical activities. Requirements for active participation, knowledge and skills in the individual sports/activities are described in Canvas.

  • Lecturer students must have passed the practice period in school.

  • Discipline students must have an approved internship and internship report.

  • Everyone must have an approved work requirement in practical activities. The work requirement is completed in groups and is of a practical nature.

Teaching methods

Teaching will be given in the form of lectures, practical work, project work and winter courses outside the campus area. The course IDR142 assumes a significant degree of self-activity on the part of the students.

All tuition in practical sports activities is compulsory, including courses in cross-country skiing and ski activities, in alpine skiing and snowboard, and in winter outdoor life.

Discipline students will have practical sessions related to the management of sports activities at various relevant practice sites. The practical sessions must be completed within two weeks.

For lecturer students, ten days of practical training in schools are included.

Estimated student workload is around 270 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria

A written report in training planning is completed in a group (two students) or individually. During the course, the student will plan, carry out, record and evaluate training in a sport/activity.
