EnglishCourse contents
Wind types and local effects - Global wind - local effects - wind shear and turbulence - acceleration effect.
Wind meteorology -wind measurements - SODAR and LIDAR systems- wind roses - wind maps.
Wind energy analysis -Statistical analysis of wind data-Weibull and Rayleigh models- wind power density-energy intensity- critical velocities.
Wind turbine performance models - Power curves of wind turbines- power curve models- wind turbine performance simulation, capacity factor.
Selection of wind turbines - site characteristics- turbine-site matching- low power density turbines
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- understand the characteristics of the wind spectra available at a prospective wind farm site.
- get an overview of different methods for measuring and mapping the wind resources.
- statistically model the wind energy resource at a prospective wind farm site.
- estimate the performance of a wind turbine under varying operating environments.
- identify the characteristics of a turbine suitable for a given wind regime.
Teaching methods
Online lectures and exercises. Estimated average workload for the student is approximately 70 hours.
Evaluation
A digital evaluation will be organized in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.
Offered as Single Standing Module
Yes, if there are places available.
Admission Requirement if given as Single Standing Module
Admission requirements for the course are the same as for the Study programme on Offshore Wind
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment of the group project assignment leading to Pass/Fail. Further information on the group project and assessment criterion will be given in Canvas at the beginning of the semester.
