Basic knowledge of fluid mechanics, mechanics of materials, mechanical vibration, and applied statistics.
Course contents
Metocean conditions- significant wave height, wave period, wind characteristics, long-term distribution of environmental parameters
Design standards for offshore wind turbines - IEC and DNV standards for coupled analysis of offshore wind turbines; design load cases; design criteria.
Design standards for floating wind turbines - mooring systems and substructures
Hydrodynamic load for offshore wind turbines - Potential flow approach; Morison’s equation; response amplitude operators.
Loads and control for offshore wind turbines -blade pitch control; power and thrust curves; controller tuning and implementation
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:

have knowledge of current design practices and standards of offshore wind turbines.

have knowledge of the metocean conditions for design of offshore wind turbines.

understand the effects of hydrodynamic loads on offshore wind turbines.

understand the effects of control actions on offshore wind turbines.
Teaching methods
Online lectures and exercises. Estimated workload for the average student is approximately 70 hours.

A digital evaluation will be organized in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.

Assessment methods and criteria
