The course is connected to the following study programs

  • Computer Engineering, Bachelor's Programmme

Teaching language

Norwegian or English.

Prerequisites

Students must have passed at least 130 ECTS at the start of 6th semester in order to carry out the final research project. This is valid for students who carry out their bachelor project from spring term 2014.

Course contents

Under guidance from the academic staff, themes and problems are chosen by the students. The project is usually related to one of the central areas in the program. The availability of guidance determines if projects can be in other areas. As far as practically possible, projects should be in co-operation with industry firms so that students obtain experience in the industrial application of theoretical knowledge and an idea of the needs of industry.

Learning outcomes

On succesfull completion of the research project, the student should be able to

  • apply current knowledge and technology to analyze and solve problems for industry and public sector

  • write a scientific paper

  • disseminate a problem and a solution both orally and in writing, in scientific as well as general contexts

Examination requirements

Approved participation in compulsory guidance meetings.

Teaching methods

The project is usually conducted in a group. In special circumstances, and with the acceptance of the study programme coordinator, individual projects are allowed. A supervisor shall be available for regular consultations.

Estimated work load for the average student is 27 hours per credit.

For every group there will be 10 compulsory guidance meetings. There is a mutual responsibility for the students and the supervisor to follow this up.

The bachleor project is normally carried out in the Spring semester. On application, the Faculty may approve that the students carry out their bachelor project in the Autumn semester. This is given that the student meets all the prerequisites, and that there are available supervisors.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.
