Course contents

The purpose of this master-level course is to introduce UiA students to co-creation across disciplinary settings, sectors of the economy and organizational boundaries in a regional context. Through cooperation and dialogue, efforts are made to solve complex regional challenges facing actors (mostly across the public sector) in Southern Norway. In this course, students will be at the forefront of a collaborative learning process where action research, problem-based learning and design thinking are the methodological frameworks being used.

Students from different subjects and disciplines, such as pedagogics, nursery and engineering education, economics, political science, music and sociology, meet to collaborate on finding new approaches and solutions. Working together in interdisciplinary teams, students test new solutions to concrete and complex challenges on behalf of, and in direct cooperation with, actors in the region. In so doing, students are trained both to analyse and work with such challenges in real life situations. Throughout the semester, students gain first-hand experience in working in a process-oriented manner.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students should be able to:

  • collaborate with actors from different organizations and different disciplines

  • analyse and understand social, organizational and collaborative contexts from different disciplinary perspectives and traditions

  • apply inductive and deductive methods

  • write a research diary and reflect on the process in relation to one¿s own discipline or field of studies

  • develop new concepts/methods/prototypes/solutions

  • communicate, both verbally and in writing, with different audiences such as policy makers, practitioners, academics and users.

The scope of work is estimated at 270 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
