All subjects in the program, both compulsory and elective courses, must be passed before the master's thesis can be submitted for censorship.

Recommended prerequisites

Good knowledge of the English language is recommended.

Course contents

In working with the master thesis, the student will carry out an independent analysis work that is tightly linked to a project in his/her own business.

The course contains a compulsory method part in which the problem of the master's thesis, various methods for research and analysis of data are discussed.

 

The student is to gather data or make use of existing data. The master thesis must contain one or more research questions, relevant theory, a thorough account of methods and a discussion of the methods, a processed analysis of the empirical data and a discussion of results and implications.

Learning outcomes

The student is to
- Acquire the ability to thoroughly assess theoretical fields and use appropriate scientific methods to analyses empirical phenomena
- Have the ability to connect theory and empirical data in research and development projects
- Acquire thorough knowledge and skills on how scientific work is planned and carried out, including knowledge of the legal and ethical frameworks conditions that apply to to such projects
- The ability to convey results of such research- and development projects

Examination requirements

Presentation of thesis proposal with 12-15 Power point slides following a content template given in the method seminar. More information in Canvas.

Teaching methods

The master thesis is to be carried out within two terms.

 

All students must have supervision before the master's thesis is submitted to censorship. The compulsory courses in the Master's program should normally be completed before one can get supervision in connection with the Master's thesis.

 

A compulsory methodology seminar is included with a three-day session and individual guidance. The main content of the method seminar is related to the research question, content, outline, literature search and use, various methods for research and analysis of data, as well as advantages and disadvantages of the different methods.

 

The total scope of the course is 810 hours. Web-based teaching support in Canvas.

Evaluation

The Master's thesis counts 100%. Letter grade.

The Master's thesis can be written alone or by a smaller group of students (up to 3 persons). For group submission, the thesis is assessed together.

Assessment methods and criteria

The thesis counts 100 %. Letter grads. The thesis can be written alone or by a smaller group of students (max 3 persons). With group submission the finish work will be evaluated for the whole group as one.

Other information

The study program leader, in consultation with the student union representative, determines the form of evaluation and whether the courses should have midterm or final evaluation, cf. the quality system chapter 4.1. Information about the evaluation form for the topic is published in Canvas.
