Course contents

The course provides students with an understanding of the fundamental principles of organizational psychology and its application in leadership within business settings. Students will explore the dynamics of human behavior, cognition, and emotions within organizational contexts, with a focus on how these factors influence individual and group performance, motivation, and decision-making processes.

Through a combination of theoretical frameworks, case studies, and practical exercises, students will delve into topics such as employee motivation, job satisfaction, group dynamics, organizational culture, and conflict resolution. Emphasis will be placed on the role of leadership in fostering effective communication, team collaboration, and organizational change management. Drawing from both classical and contemporary theories, students will develop critical thinking skills to evaluate leadership effectiveness and adaptability in diverse workplace environments.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the students should:

• have knowledge about the fundamental principles of organizational psychology and their application in leadership within business settings.

• have knowledge about how human behavior, cognition, and emotions influence individual and group performance, motivation, and decision-making processes in organizational contexts.

• Be able to examine the role of leadership in fostering effective communication, team collaboration, and organizational change management.

• Be able to develop critical thinking skills to evaluate leadership effectiveness and adaptability in diverse workplace environments.

• Be able to apply theoretical frameworks to real-world case studies and practical exercises to enhance understanding and application of organizational psychology and leadership concepts.

Teaching methods

Lectures, seminars, and group exercises. The estimated workload is about 200 hours.

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
