Course contents

This course explores the dynamics and challenges inherent in cross-cultural and virtual team environments. Students will examine the intricacies of working with diverse teams spanning geographical, cultural, and temporal boundaries, gaining insights into effective communication, collaboration, and leadership strategies. Special emphasis will be placed on navigating cultural differences, building trust, and fostering inclusivity to improve team performance, creativity and innovation. Students will explore the unique complexities of virtual team dynamics, including issues related to time zone differences, technology-mediated communication, and virtual team building. They will acquire essential skills in leveraging digital tools and platforms to facilitate effective collaboration and project management across virtual settings.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the students should be able to:

• identify the key dynamics and challenges associated with cross-cultural and virtual team environments.

• analyze the impact of cultural differences on communication, collaboration, and leadership within cross-cultural teams.

• evaluate the role of trust and inclusivity in fostering team performance, creativity, and innovation within diverse team settings.

• develop proficiency in leveraging digital tools and platforms to facilitate effective collaboration, communication, and project management in virtual team environments

Teaching methods

Lectures, seminars, and group exercises. The estimated workload is about 200 hours

Evaluation

The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
